If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you might have seen me post that the site was hacked. This did indeed happen and unfortunately it means I’ve lost the entire custom theme I spent months creating. Fortunately I did not lose my post history or photos since those were backed up. I have a lot to say on this topic, and I probably will soon because I’m sure my experience would be valuable to other bloggers.

The short story is that I am most likely leaving WordPress for good. It’s just not secure enough for me to run on my own, and I don’t ever want to get hacked again.

The good news is that I will most definitely keep blogging on another platform, probably under the same name. This catastrophe served as a wake up call to get back on track with blogging and get back to the parts I used to enjoy so much. I think I lost a lot of my enjoyment when I tried to make blogging a money-producing job instead of a hobby (not that I ever made much money from it). Time to get back to basics I think.

The best news is that, to my knowledge, none of your information or security was compromised due to the hack.

Are you on Pinterest?

Hello ladies (and possibly gents) — are you on Pinterest? I’ve been pinning for a year or two and just recently revamped my boards so that it’s easier to interact with you guys. I used to just have 1 beauty board, now I have 4! Here’s the breakdown:

My Pinterest Boards

Beauty / Blogging: general beauty tips, beauty-related things that are pretty, and upcoming collection pictures

Beauty Wishlist: things I’d like to purchase in the future — I would love to hear your feedback if you have any! If something sucks, tell me so I don’t waste my money. If it’s awesome, I’ll bump it to the top of the shopping list.

Products I’m Testing: I’ll do my best to keep this updated as I test new products. Again, let me know if there’s something specific you want me to test out with a product or if you want me to hurry up and review! My attention span is pretty short when it comes to testing so sometimes it helps to have someone remind me :)

Beauty All Stars: My favorite products of all time, the ones I keep coming back to again and again. In most cases I’ve used these for months (or years) and have repurchased at least once.

If you’re not already on Pinterest, you can sign up here. It’s a completely free virtual scrapboarding site that won’t spam email you. If you are on Pinterest, leave me a comment either here or on Pinterest and I’ll check out your boards.

Looking forward to (virtually) chatting with you!

I’ve been saving my pennies since I started working and now it’s finally time to get my own apartment! After weeks of searching, I found just the right place. I’m moving in 2 weeks! This was a little sooner than I expected so there will be a lot of running around to get everything organized and packed up.

Unfortunately this means I’ll be away from the blog for a bit. I should be back to my posting routine (and hopefully even more frequent posting thanks to a shorter commute) by mid-February. Thanks for your patience!

New Comment Policy

Hey I just wanted to do a little update on the comment policy, which so far has been pretty lax. I’ve been getting a lot of comments like Hey check out my blog xoxo. I consider these comments to be spam. From now on…

  1. Any comment that contains a link will be automatically held back for moderation
  2. If I think your comment seems more like an advertisement, I will either edit or delete it

This isn’t to say that I’m not interested in your blogs! If you’ve written a post on a similar topic that you think I might enjoy, feel free to link it. It’s pretty easy to tell when someone is trying to advertise vs. engage in a discussion.

Thank you everyone for your comments – I read every single one and I truly enjoy them. Have a great weekend!

Site Redesign + Tour of New Features!

I am so excited to show you the new site design! After weeks spent elbow-deep in HTML and CSS, I think I’m finally done. I substantially changed the feel of the blog with a new color scheme and new graphics (all created by me). I also added some exciting features.

We’ve got a nifty new sidebar widget!

If you ever want to know what’s launching soon, check out the sidebar widget just above the blogroll. Click on the titles to expand a section! I’ll update it whenever I post a new batch of collection info.

I’ve put a lot of thought into how to deal with the sale info, and I think what I’ll do is keep a separate page on the site with all current deals, then do an update post 2-3x per week with only new deal info. That way you won’t have to sort through long-term deals that don’t interest you every time I post new deals, but people who are interested can still look at the full list. Thoughts?

Mind the Gap! We’re Going On Holiday

After months of planning, the day is finally here! MLBB will be arriving on British shores very soon.

I hope to do a bit of posting while I’m there, but if I don’t have time, I will definitely have TONS of photos and new products to share when I get home.

Hip Hip Hooray! It’s Our First Birthday

This month has been full of milestones! It’s so appropriate that I graduated from college just as my blog celebrated its first birthday. First and foremost I want to thank everyone who has supported me with this project – my parents, my siblings, my boyfriend, and my friends. You guys celebrated even the smallest successes and prodded me when I felt like quitting. I’m so glad to have such a strong support network.

Since I already did a retrospective for the 2010 roundup, I want to spend this post talking about the future. My life is pretty up in the air right now. I’m busy filling out job applications, though I’m not entirely sure what field I want to be in. Maybe that’s a good thing considering the limited opportunities. I want this part of my career to be about exploring options and finding my niche.

Hopefully my job search will my fruitful! Until then, My Lips But Better is my job. I hope that one day I can turn blogging into a career, however I don’t see that becoming a reality for a while.

I think the first year of the blog was about finding my voice. I’m finally starting to feel comfortable in my writing routine and photography style (you have no idea how many hours I’ve spent on this). The second year is going to be about expansion and improvement. Here are my goals:

My Lips But Better is almost 1 year old!

This Saturday will be the blog’s first birthday! Instead of giving myself gifts, I’m going to give them to you. This blog would be nothing without you guys and I’m so thankful that you come here and read what I write. Check back every day this week for a different giveaway. Be quick, though! They’re only open for 2 days each. Some are open to international readers, so be sure to check the rules.

A look back at 2010…

This year I started the blog and my, what an adventure it’s been! More work than I ever imagined but also more satisfying. Although things may slow down a bit in the coming year, I intend to keep posting as much as I can. With extra classes, graduation, and hopefully finding a job, we’ll see how much that is!

I hope 2010 was great for you, and that 2011 is even better. Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and being my friend :)

Here are some of the beauty lessons I learned in 2010…

  • Skincare is the cake, and makeup is the frosting. I spent a good portion of this year struggling with less-than-stellar skin. I tried to cover it up with makeup and felt horrible when I washed it all off. I decided a few months ago to take my skincare more seriously (including a visit to the dermatologist) and things have been steadily improving.
  • Biting my nails isn’t nearly as satisfying as painting them. This year I finally put a stop to my nasty habit of nail biting and discovered a love of nail painting. I love looking down at my hands and seeing pretty colors, and I love even more that my nails don’t look like they’ve been through a cheese grater. At least not as much as they used to.
  • Bloggers and vloggers have a wealth of information to share, but sometimes you have to scout around for good ones. I highly recommend all of the blogs in my sidebar for their stunning photos, quality reviews, and valuable tips. As for vloggers, my favorites are the Pixiwoo sistersTiffany DLisa Eldridge, and Wayne Goss.

And here’s a look back at the top 10 posts of 2010…

  1. MAC A Tartan Tale, Chapter 1 Swatches
  2. NARS Holiday 2010 Collection Info
  3. MAC A Tartan Tale Collection Info
