Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer

If you’re a regular reader, you know that I’ve had a lot going on in my life these past few months. That combined with more responsibility at work means I’m getting less sleep than usual and (I think) it shows. I started a quest for the perfect concealer, and today I’m pleased to say that I think I’ve found it in Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer ($22).

Most of the liquid concealers I tried were lacking in coverage and staying power (i.e. MAC Moisturecover, Make Up Store Reflex Concealer, Maybelline Mineral Power). I also tried some cream concealers, which offered better coverage but ended up creasing badly (i.e. Bobbi Brown Cream Concealer, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, and TheBalm TimeBalm). Estee Lauder Double Wear is the perfect balance – it’s a liquid concealer that has great coverage and stays firmly in place all day (and night) with no creasing. It’s basically a miracle concealer.

Here’s the before and after using shade Extra Light. I literally did not do anything except apply the concealer between these pictures, so clearly it made a huge difference in how much brighter my eyes look. It even made my lashline look darker and more defined thanks to the increased contrast between skin and lashes.

Double Wear Concealer comes in a lipgloss-style tube with a doefoot applicator, which makes it easy to apply little dots around the eye area as needed. My only caution is to work quickly (don’t stop to take photos like I did!) because you’ve probably only got 30-60 seconds to work the product into your skin before it sets for good. I pat it into my skin with a finger, though a synthetic concealer brush would work just as well.

Because the concealer sets so firmly, it may seem a bit drying. If this concerns you, apply a bit of extra moisturizer before starting your makeup.

Tip: don’t forget to brighten the inner corner of your eyelid and the outer corner of your eye! Most women have some discoloration there in addition to the usual undereye circles.

Overall I am very much loving this concealer. Compared to other department store brands, the price is reasonable, especially considering it works so well. Even better, the line was recently revamped to include 10 shades ranging from Extra Light to Extra Deep, so most women will be able to find a match easily.

Estee Lauder is sold at most department store beauty counters, or you can find it online at Nordstrom with free shipping and returns :)

I think this is actually the only EL product I own! If the quality is something that I can expect from other EL products I will definitely be back to try more :)

That’s pretty much what I said to myself after seeing how well it worked! I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in the new products that we forget to check out the ‘oldies but goodies’.

Sort of reminds me of Maybelline Superstay 24 Hour Concealer…

I remember trying that last year and hating it, thought I can’t remember specifically why I disliked it. Might have been a color range issue? Either way, thanks for suggesting a drugstore dupe!

Actually, looking back I think it was Maybelline Mineral Power concealer, not Superstay that I tried last year. I found it very drying and fake-looking on my skin. I may have to try the Superstay concealer out! Thanks for the tip.
