Over the past couple of months I’ve made a real effort to find cheaper products that don’t make me feel like I’m giving up all my little luxuries. Finding a good foundation was a priority since it runs out quickly compared to something like blush or lipstick. I read a review on Nouveau Cheap that convinced me to give this Cover Girl foundation a try and I’m incredibly pleased with the result.
Cover Girl made a big deal out of the fact that this product has natural ingredients, which I don’t consider to be entirely honest. Yes, there are some natural ingredients, but they’re way down on the list. The main ingredient in this foundation is cyclopentasiloxane, a silicone often found in foundation primers. It ensures easy application and a smooth finish. Natural ingredients aren’t a huge selling point for me anyway, but I thought I should make things clear
I really enjoy the texture of this foundation because it feels creamy yet incredibly light on the skin. It has great slip (thanks to the silicone) and takes 1-2 minutes to set, during which you’ll notice a fresh cucumber scent. It doesn’t provide heavy coverage at all; I would classify it as light to medium depending on how you apply. Here’s the before-and-after:
I think it does a great job of evening out my skintone, hiding ruddiness, and making my skin look smooth. Basically, everything I want in a foundation. I like to set mine with translucent powder for a soft matte finish, but if you have very dry skin you may not need that.
It wears pretty well, though I wouldn’t call it a long-wear foundation by any means. On my skin it looks really good for 4 hours, pretty good for another 3-4 hours, and then it definitely needs a touch-up.
Now the best part, which is that it costs about $10 at drugstores and big box stores, even less if you can catch a sale or coupon. So even though it won’t last from morning to midnight, I don’t mind using a little extra for a touch-up. If you’re interested in purchasing, I would definitely try Walmart because they had testers on display that helped me pick the right shade on the first try.
