Hello everyone, welcome to “what Katie looks like first thing in the morning”. I’ve done you the favor of applying foundation and blush before taking this photo:

As you can see, my lashes are naturally dark but they get spindly toward the ends and become hard to see. This is no good, because I want long, thick lashes to give the appearance of being bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Enter L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes (hereafter referred to as “Beauty Tubes”).
L’Oreal Beauty Tubes is a double-ended product with a white primer and a black mascara (or brown, if you want). The idea is that the primer has little fibers that help build up your lashes and the mascara forms tiny tubes around your lashes thanks to a special polymer formula. Tubing formulas are a big deal for me because they don’t give me raccoon eyes by lunchtime… in fact, they won’t come off at all until you wash your face with warm water and rub your eyelashes a little bit.

You’d think tubing formulas would be more popular, but they typically aren’t because a) they’re expensive (L’Oreal is the only drugstore brand to offer a tubing mascara) and b) they don’t offer much in the way of length and volume. L’Oreal Beauty Tubes solves both of those problems.
Now, back to that primer. It’s a little scary looking, so prepare yourself:

Since you’ll need to completely cover the white primer with mascara, I try not to apply primer near the roots of my lashes. Believe me, it looks weird if you miss a spot. I also try to give the primer at least 30 seconds of dry time before the second layer, which looks like this:

Hello lashes!
Clearly that’s a huge improvement over the first photo, such an improvement that I haven’t bothered with liquid liner in weeks.
Aside from the obvious lash benefits, I am so pleased to find that this product costs less than $9, and you could easily shave a few dollars off that by using coupons or following drugstore sales (Nouveau Cheap is great for that
) I can’t possibly recommend it enough.

Haha, I can totally tell that you actually did take these first thing in the morning. Katie’s wakeup face is pretty iconic.
Looks great! I am totally putting it on my to-buy list.
This looks awesome! I can see the definition in your lashes after applying the mascara, compared to your photo when you’re not wearing it
Looks like I need to pay a visit to my local drug store! Thanks for this and the photos! xo
Thank you! I agree it is a HUGE difference. I almost thought it might be too much for work, but decided it would probably be okay with light makeup elsewhere. Hope you find a great deal!
It sounds amazing, but I’m wondering how hard you have to rub to get the tubes off. Do you lose many eyelashes when you take this off? I have some what “delicate” lashes that seem to fall out when I am rubbing hard to get waterproof mascara off with a less than ideal eye makeup removed.
If I just get my face wet while washing it I need to rub with my fingers or a towel to get the tubes off – this might lead to lashes falling out if yours are delicate. I lose maybe 1 or 2 lashes a week, which is probably how many I would lose anyway due to growth.
Another option is to put some water-based makeup remover (Bioderma Sensibio, Caudalie Cleansing Water, I think Sephora has a store brand one) on a cotton pad and let it sit on your closed eye for about 30 seconds. Then just pull the cotton pad downward and the tubes should come right off with no rubbing. I would love to hear if this works for you!
