Get a magical glow with MAC Magically Cool Liquid Powder

Years and years ago (my birthday is coming up, so let’s not reminisce on how many years it’s been…) my mother went to Macy’s and returned with a few Prescriptives products. My sister and I were intrigued, so the three of us gathered in the living room to review the new purchases (we still do this). We were amazed by something called Magic Liquid Powder, which felt like icy cool water on your skin. Novelty factor: off the charts.

Fast forward to now — Prescriptives is on life support. Estee Lauder (the parent company of MAC, Bobbi Brown, Prescriptives, etc.) has taken to repurposing Prescriptives products and formulations for their other brands. At first I thought it was lazy (let’s be honest, it is a bit lazy), but I’m psyched to see this product again anyway! Now it’s being called MAC Magically Cool Liquid Powder ($29.50).

MAC Magically Cool Liquid Powder in Truth & Light

We first saw it in the Disney-inspired Venomous Villains collection last fall, when it was limited edition. Now it’s part of the permanent line. It was on my maybe-I’ll-buy-it-eventually list until I went shopping with Lipglossiping, who was so impressed by the swatch that she bought it on the spot. What can I say? Peer pressure (and sangria) went to my head. I bought one, too.

MAC Magically Cool Liquid Powder in Truth & Light

Like Charlotte, I found that Truth & Light works as a superduper subtle highlighter OR even better as a setting powder. I know what you’re thinking: Isn’t it sparkly? Don’t you look like a disco ball? Well, no. It’s glowy. Magically glowy, the kind of glowy that looks like you’ve been hanging around with fairies.

Since this powder has water inside it (science!), you have to be particular about how you apply it. I found that natural hair brushes didn’t work well at all, and I had good results from a synthetic stippling brush and my Real Techniques blush brush. Definitely do not try to use this with a foam sponge, it will be a clumpy disaster.

Bottom Line: This is exactly what I look like when I come back from the beach. Exactly. And as much as I’d like a beach vacation right now, I’ll settle for finding one in a jar.

What products do you use for a beachy glow?

Excellent review! I have this on my maybe eventually list too, as it feels so nice going on and the sheen is very subtle. Looks lovely on you!

Hi! Coming out of lurkdom to say that I agree 100% with you. I bought the Magically Cool Liquid Powder in the same shade as you and I adore it! My T-zone is normally very oily but this keeps me matte longer than any other loose powder I’ve tried. I’m really glad it’s part of the permanent line, too–I’d hate for it to disappear…

I need to give this another try. I almost returned it I was so unhappy with it at first. I love the concept though.

Did you ever leave the lid off? There is actual water in the powder, so perhaps it dried out. I’m sorry you were disappointed!
