A few weeks ago I posted about MAC Seasonally Supreme (available August 11th), which includes 9 new shades and 3 repromoted shades of Sheen Supreme Lipstick. Although the Sheen Supreme formula launched several months ago, I’ve only just gotten to trying them out.
MAC says Sheen Supreme is a hybrid product that provides the color impact of a lipstick with the shine of a lipgloss. It’s supposed to be lightweight, non-sticky, and comfortable on the lips — I found all of those claims to be 100% true! The lipsticks have a slick, hydrating feel that lasts 2-3 hours (and even looks pretty good while it’s wearing off).
I was given the opportunity to choose 2 shades from this collection for review, and I had a really tough time. Although there are tons of nude pink shades, I wanted to see if MAC could deliver on the promise of vivid color in a light formula, so I chose Fashion City (mid-tone peach) and Korean Candy (hot tomato red).
Fashion City was sort of a surprise for me. I expected a sheer peach and got nearly opaque coverage. I’m not sure how I feel about this shade with my coloring, however I think it will look fabulous on women with warm medium or dark skintones (see Temptalia’s lip swatch for proof).
I took a gamble with Korean Candy and I think it paid off. It’s a hot orange-red that somehow looks more casual than traditional blue-reds. I’m typically way too lazy for lip brushes, and I was pleased to find that I could get a decent shape by applying straight from the tube.
The packaging is sleek black metal with a shiny finish and a flat cap (unlike the bullet-shaped caps seen on regular MAC lipsticks). I found it very functional and honestly a lot prettier than the normal packaging. It also contains slightly more product than the regular lipsticks for the same price – score!
Bottom Line: Get the best of both worlds with MAC Sheen Supreme Lipsticks.
