In high school I swore by pencil eyeliner, and in college I lived for gel formulas. Lately I’ve been loving liquid liner, too. What’s the only thing left to try? Pen-type liner!
I’ve always been suspicious of these. I thought they’d have the same feel and lasting power as a Crayola marker, but with this Eyeko Graffiti Eyeliner Pen ($8.00) that’s not true at all.
The nib is stiff enough to control but soft enough to draw smooth lines. I was able to get an impressively precise and thin line (even near the tearduct).
I also loved the formula, which is pigmented and not watery in the least. Thinner lines dry quickly (this photo was taken about 20 seconds after drawing), but very thick lines may need up to a minute to dry completely.
Once the liner dries, it wears extremely well even in this extremely hot weather. Absolutely no flaking, and I only experienced a little bit of smudging when I rubbed my eyes.
The packaging is another story. Although the silver tube is sleek and pretty, I’ve had a really hard time getting the cap off. Several times I had to pry the cap with my teeth (I really wanted to get that eyeliner open!)
I also managed to accidentally remove half of the silver paint with nail polish remover while trying to get sticker residue off. I’m not really sure I can blame that one on Eyeko, though.
Bottom Line: Even though my Graffiti Eyeliner is slightly disfigured and hard to open, it’s a great pen-type liner at a decent price.
