Beauty Blogger Tip: Storage Drawers

Most of my cosmetics live in an IKEA Alex drawer unit ($119), which I absolutely love. Thing is, I have to keep items to-be-reviewed in a separate place if there’s any hope of actually getting to them, and I don’t have enough space or cash to justify another Alex unit. I’d been tossing products into a horrible fabric bin for months, so when I saw sale signs at Container Store last week I decided to take a look.

I found these cute, stackable translucent drawers that are tall enough for even my tallest nail polishes. Best part? $7.99 each. I’ve seen cheaper drawer sets, but none were the right size or style. I like that these are translucent because I think clear drawers look cluttered.

Last night I busted out the label maker (wooooooooo party!) and sectioned off the items into categories depending on where they are in the review process. I try to take photos before I test products because it looks nicer, so I put all those products at the top. The middle is devoted to products that have been photographed but not swatched.

And the bottom drawer is for products that have been photographed, swatched, and are ready to review. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming soon!

Bloggers, where do you store products to be reviewed?

Great ideas! I need to find somewhere to store my soon-to-be-reviewed items way from my regular stock. My husband is starting to freak out about how much STUFF I have! Right now, it’s spilling out of my 3-drawer tower and all over the vanity. Not a great look!

omg I love these drawers. I purchased one from Walmart and it keeps things neater. I use it to keep any of my new products that I haven’t touched or reviewed yet, I think I need to get one for my opened products, lol.
    Great post!

I keep my products to review in a train case–I use the different compartments in the train case to sort where I am in the process.
I have to look into an Alex–I have a 10-drawer rolly cart but my stuff is getting too heavy! How does your Alex unit hold up for you? Do you find the drawers too big to keep things organized?

It’s a very sturdy unit that holds up extremely well. The drawers are also on metal runners, so they don’t tip open when you’re trying to look for something (unlike the cheaper Helmer units).

Yes, the drawers are too big to keep things organized unless you get some dividers. I found some extremely cheap and usefully-sized ones at Wal-Mart that I plan to post about soon.

Oh, that’s fab! I agree that clear is too cluttered so that is perfect. I have a system for items to be photogrpahed/swatched/reviewed but isn’t ideal as some of involves being in the holding pen under my bed! Every blogger needs a system!

When I first started blogging I didn’t have a good system, so occasionally I still find products that I bought with the intention of reviewing and never got around to. They’re all mixed in with my regular makeup stash!

You can get similar translucent drawers from Muji, right?

What a great setup! It looks so orderly and nice and classy, even! I also spy some Essence lipglosses in there – LOVE those, especially the shades you have ;)

Oh that is a fantastic idea! I have simply been leaving things on my desk if they need to be reviewed…and I end up losing the items =_=

Wow, this storage unit is amazing. I also use thr Alex to store products And I currently leave all of my ‘to be reviewed/tested” products on my desk. And half the time I have to make a little space so I can type on my keyboard. lol My issue is I need a bigger house lol But until that happens i’m going to check out these bins. thanks for sharing
