Check out my Novalash Lash Extensions!

Recently I was offered the chance to try a complimentary set of NovaLash Lash Extensions and review them for the blog. NovaLash PR put me in touch with Alicia Hunter, an independent lash extensionist who has clients all along the east coast. Alicia is also a licensed aesthetician, which put me at ease regarding the quality and safety of the NovaLash products.

I met with Alicia at a hotel suite in Buckhead (a chi-chi area of Atlanta). At first it seemed a little weird but it turned out to be a calm, relaxing environment. You can also have your lash extensions done at your home or in a salon, depending on who you choose as an extensionist. Alicia asked me whether I wanted natural or dramatic extensions, and I said as long as I was there I might as well go for dramatic!

Yowza! Please tell me you watched Bones last week and get that reference. The lashes are long, thick, and permanently curled… basically my dream come true because mascara and I don’t get along. My natural lashes seem to be holding up well and there aren’t any droopy lashes in sight.

The process took about 90 minutes and was completely painless. I basically just laid down with my eyes shut while Alicia applied individual extensions with a long-lasting adhesive. Before we started, she put some little paper shields over my lower lashes so that my top and bottom lashes wouldn’t get stuck together. Then she started applying the extensions, which felt funny at first and I’m sure my eyes were fluttering a lot. She and I gabbed away about everything from cosmetics to Arrested Development, and the time seemed to go by pretty quickly. I’m so thankful that my giggling didn’t lead to her accidentally poking my eye out with her tweezers.

Alicia used a variety of extension lengths to mimic the natural distribution of my lashes. Although NovaLash offers a variety of colors (including brown), Alicia only keeps the black and glitter versions in her kit. Might as well go for something noticeable, you know? She said she recently put some glitter lashes on fashion designer Richie Rich (of Heatherette) and he’s in love with them.

Overall I’m really pleased with the results. They look a bit much in these closeups, but from normal viewing distance they are really flattering. I’ll try to do some FOTDs this week so you can see!

Unfortunately they won’t last forever (more like 3-5 weeks) so I’ll need to get a “refill” before Christmas. You can keep your lashes on longer by not curling them and avoiding cosmetics or skincare products that contain glycol or carbomer. Alicia provided me with an aftercare kit including approved mascara, eyeliner and makeup remover/lash conditioning pads.

Now, let’s talk turkey. A full set of NovaLash extensions can cost anywhere from $150-400 depending on your location and extensionist. Refills are $60-90. You can find a list of Novalash extensionists here and contact them for pricing in your area. If you live on the east coast, I highly recommend Alicia Hunter. She lives in Palm Beach, Florida and regularly travels to Atlanta and New York City among other places.

As I said, I’m really pleased with these extensions right now, but obviously I’m not ready to give a “final judgment” until I see how they wear. Expect an update next Monday!
